INSTRUCTORS-IN-TRAINING POLICIES
TYPES OF INSTRUCTORS-IN-TRAINING (IIT)
This outline is for WCD, not the DeMile Defensive Tactics program. Although similar for most of the information they differ insomuch that DDT is only two phases and the IIT can start teaching after phase one.
Phase One - A new student in the IIT program. No recognition as being able to teach in any capacity. If in an existing school, may assist in White, once out of White. He may present techniques to White, on a limited basis, at the discretion of the Instructor.Must wear a IIT belt, but no IIT jacket. His testing is at an Instructors level, not the students. (IIT who have a black belt in WCD will be allowed to wear their BB even though they are in the IIT program).
Phase Two - The IIT student must have successfully passed the Yellow IIT level.(Which is different than the standard Y/O level of the system.)After he has gone into Orange, he may request authorization to be allowed to become a " Level One WCD Trainer".If he meets the Teaching Evaluation Requirements he will be authorized to teach White and Yellow and receive the red instructors jacket. It will be written into the contract that the IIT will confine his teaching only to the level stipulated and he will not be allowed to award any rank. The IIT will agree to aggressively work to finish the Orange level. It is expected, by this allowance, that the IIT will advance more rapidly by working continuously with the basic techniques as well as have students to train with. Unless the IIT already has a school from his previous martial arts experience, he will not be allowed to open a permanent school or promote his teaching or have more than 10 students, or charge afee.If the IIT is training in a fully authorized existing WCD school, he must continue his scheduled training program, even though he is allowed to teach on his own. A "Level one Trainer" is only one big step ahead of the students and he should recognize his limitations. He is not a WCD Instructor, only training to be one.He must use this time to focus on accelerating his own training. This is why he is not allowed the responsibility of a club. The responsibilities and stress of running a club distracts from training. Once he is a "Phase Two Trainer", he then is permitted to be more involved in creating his nucleus of students. If the IIT abuses this privilege, as determined by Sijo or the WCD Board of Directors, the IIT will agree to relinquish his "Trainers" certificate and any WCD teaching recognition and may be removed from the IIT program.
Phase Three - The IIT student must have successfully tested out of the IIT Orange level and be training in Blue.He must also have qualified at the minimum level on the "Teaching Evaluation Requirements". At this time the IIT may apply for "Level Two Trainer" status for recognition to teach the Orange level and abide by the same requirements as a "Level One Trainer".He may award rank up to and including yellow.Exception:At this level the IIT may actually advertise himself and secure a temporary teaching location, such as a community center or church center or other temporary location that is outside the demographically protected area of an existing WCD school. He may not have more than 20 students. He is still training as a IIT and therefore must continue to fulfill his IIT requirements.Any slacking from his IIT training agreement will be grounds for rescinding his "Trainer" privileges. Also, because he can charge a fee, prior to becoming certified, the second payment of $2000 is now payable in full.It is the chief instructors prerogative to arrange the manner of payment.
Phase Four - This is the certification level (Red tip on the Black Belt). By the time his students are ready to leave Orange, he should have completed the IIT program.Certification is earned in two stages. Stage one is the initial certification and is temporary recognition of the instructor to see how he handles the full responsibility of teaching and running a school.Once he has successfully completed the probationary period(one year minimum) he then is eligible to be awarded full certification (To be determined by Sijo and/or the Board of Directors). Certification status is based on annual renewal. It is mandatory that the IIT let his students know he is in the IIT program and the meaning of his certificate.Even though fully certified, the instructor is not authorized to award a WCD "Black Belt".This can only be done by Sijo and/or the WCD Grading Certification Board. A " Instructors-in-Training Requirements", "IIT Time Frame","Responsibilities of a WCD Manager/Owner"Wing Chun Do Instructor Profile" and "Revocation and/or Repercussions" has been developed and it is from this outline that many of the basic training requirements of the IIT have been determined. The IIT will be required to read and sign that they understand each of these outlines and agree to follow, to the best of their ability, the information contained in each outline.
REVOCATION The Tao of Wing Chun Do and/or the Wing Chun Do International Association reserves the right to revoke the Instructor Certification of any Instructor who engages in activities which would damage the reputation of the Tao of Wing Chun Do, the WCD International Association or the National/International Instructor Training Center which provided his training. Grounds for revocation of certification include but are not limited to: -Teaching in a manner inconsistent with the acceptable guidelines taught. - Defrauding students of money. - Physical or mental abuse of students by the Instructor. - Excessive complaints filed regarding the conduct of the Instructor. REPERCUSSIONS FOR NOT FULLFILLING TRAINING COMMITMENTS 1.If the student misses training* twice in a month, without a valid excuse, it is the chief Instructors prerogative to remove the student from the IIT program for a month. He may train in his regular class but cannot train with the other IIT or swat or assist in any class. *Training is defined as regular class, assigned extra classes, teaching and/or assisting and testing or grading sessions. 2.If the student misses three times in a month the Chief Instructor can remove the student from the IIT program for two months. 3.If the student misses training four or more times in a month the Chief Instructor can put the student on three to six months sabbatical leave. 4.If the student repeats number three, then the Chief Instructor can request, from Sijo and/or the Board of Directors, that the student be dismissed from the program. Any student may appeal his penalties, in written form, with Sijo or the Board of Directors.

INSTRUCTORS IN TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
These requirements are based on the assumption that the "instructor in training" hopes to open his/her own school and would like to develop the qualities that would insure their school being a success. Each school, privately owned or an extension club from the International Center, is part of the WCD system and must be run in a manner consistent with the daily teaching structure as designed by the international training center. This uniformity will insure the future quality of the system throughout the world. IIT TRAINING TIME FRAME
Each trainee entering the WCD instructor training program while attending a WCD national or international Training Center does so with the full knowledge and agreement that said training will require a personal training commitment of approximately three years. The Instructor-in-training (IIT) should try and establish a time frame for completing the program.Personal responsibilities will have a direct bearing on how much time and how consistent a student will be able to train. The purpose of a time frame is to set a tentative schedule to follow. The maximum time allowed for basic certification is three years (**exceptions).Any time past this deadline may require the student to pay an additional monthly fee.
**The Temporary Instructor Certification period may be extended under the following conditions: - Being an extension student and not having access to regular WCD training facilities. - Death of a member of the trainees immediate family, or - Catastrophic illness of the trainee of an immediate family member requiring a leave of absence from training. - Job relocation to a distance, which prohibits fulfillment of the trainees Instructor Training Policies and Responsibilities Agreement. This automatically changes the status of the trainee to that of an Extension Instructor Trainee. A very important point to remember is that the purpose of the program is to learn Wing Chun Do, as an instructor, not to become a master in the time allowed.Too many IIT expect to have a high degree of skill by the time they finish the program and this is unlikely within the time allowed. It is like studying at the University. Just because you get your degree does not mean you are good at the information you have acquired. This takes time and constant reinforcement by application, which means teaching over a period of years.
Constant access to a WCD training center will have a direct bearing on overall progress, since there is a minimal requirement for teaching classes in each level. IIT who have limited access to an authorized WCD club will be given special consideration as to how to fulfill their teaching obligations.
Regular WCD students are capable of going through the system within three years or less, if they are consistent and do minimal training at home. This is training two hours a week in class and one hour a week outside class.Assuming that the IIT will put in two to three times as much training per week, it is safe to determine that, even though more involved, the IIT should be able to finish in the same time period.
WHITE BELT - This is an introductory level for the regular student and should take no more than two months to complete. The IIT should not take longer than four to six months, unless there are extenuating circumstances. He will not be required to teach or assist. If he is a higher rank, as a regular student, then he may assist on a limited basis. The testing will be oral, written and physical and he should know White well.(No skill expected).
YELLOW -Yellow/Orange is the same level for the regular student, but it has been broken into two parts for the IIT.Yellow should not take over six to eight months.
ORANGE - Orange is really Yellow with a few things added and should not take over six to eight months. Orange level will require refinement in all the White and Yellow levels.
BLUE - Blue is the last level for learning new things.Since the IIT must show a basic skill in White, Yellow and Orange as well as learn some new things, he could finish this level within a nine months.
BROWN - Brown is a training level only and is the time for refining overall skills in the system. He should complete this level within nine months.
If the IIT is serious and approaches training as if he is going to the University, then he will be consistent, do his homework and train as much as he can and finish the program in three years. An aggressive student could do it in less time and with the options of teaching early, as outlined in "Instructor Level Recognition" then he could accelerate his learning by teaching more andthereby acquire invaluable experience. TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES: INTERNATIONAL TRAINING CENTER (ITC). This is where an IIT can attend, on a regular basis, the class sessions offered by the ITC. EXTENSION TRAINING PROGRAM.This where the IIT, because of distance, cannot attend regular classes and therefore must work with the Chief Instructor at the ITC closest to him in developing a training program appropriate to finishing the Instructor’s program in a timely fashion. A practical training commitment and a time projection must be established by the extension IIT student for the training center they are registered in.
CERTIFIED IIT SEMINARS.
Any extension seminar that is for the primary purpose of training the extension IIT must be paid for by the IIT or an additional seminar must be arranged for the purpose of covering costs.
