During the Match

If there is stalling on the ground, the referee has the right to restart the competitors from standing.

If the competitors go off the mat, the referee can stop the match, and the competitors will be moved to the middle of the mat in the same position if the position can be determined by the referee. Deliberately or repeatedly moving outside the area will be considered as stalling and penalized accordingly.

The referee has the right to stop time and check the condition of the fighters (cuts, injuries, etc.).

If competitors are deadlocked, the referee may restart the match from a standing position.

How You Win

We use a pool format; competitors will face every competitor in his/her pool. There are no points awarded within a match; points are only awarded based on the outcome of the match.

3 points for a win.

A competitor gives up or submits by tapping the foot, hand or verbally.

Referee Decision: If a competitor refuses to tap out, and the official deems the submission effective, the official will stop the match and award the win to the person applying technique.

Corner throws in a towel: The match is stopped; the win goes to the opponent.

One point for a draw. (1 point goes to each competitor.)

At the end of the competition, the “per match average points” are tallied for each competitor. Highest average points per match wins.

Rules are subject to change.

Disqualification Will Occur if

A competitor breaks the rules twice.

The referee determines that an illegal act was blatant. In this case, disqualification may occur without warning.

Slippery substances are used on body or clothing.

There is outside interference with any official or competitor.

Intentional harm occurs. The person who committed the act will be escorted by the police and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Time Limits

Five minute matches.

Coaches Credentials

Only coaches that register with the tournament by the time registration closes will receive coaching credentials to the competition floor. For clubs with less than 10 athletes competing, only 2 coaches will be allowed. For clubs with greater than 10 athletes competing, we will allow more coaches.

Coaches can give registration info (name, club, contact phone, names of athletes competing) by calling (541) 471-4430. Registered coaches gain entry into the event for free.

No-Contest (NC) Policy

An athlete must compete in more than 50% of his/her matches for a Per Match Average(PMA) to be calculated and count for placement in a division.

For example, if an athlete is in a pool of 5 competitors, is supposed to compete in 4 matches for the day, wins his two matches but gets injured to the point where he can’t compete, he is disqualified from placing. His day’s performance will be calculated as follows:

Match 1: 3 points

Match 2: 3 points

Match 3: NC

Match 4: NC

PMA: 6 divided 2= 3 However, athlete is disqualified for not competing in over

50% of his matches.

Same situation, but the athlete wins his first three matches, but is injured to the point where he can’t compete in match #4, his day’s performance will be calculated as follows:

Match 1: 3 points

Match 2: 3 points

Match 3: 3 points

Match 4: NC

PMA: 9 divided by 3=3

If an athlete chooses not to compete, that is not a No-Contest(NC). That is a forfeit and is recorded as a zero(0). A No-Contest(NC) is only recorded when an athlete is physically unable to continue competition.
